This bill mandates the Department of Human Services (DHS) to provide duffel bags to children in foster care who do not have suitable luggage for their personal belongings. Additionally, the DHS may include personal hygiene items or other supplies in these duffel bags as funding permits. The Director of Human Services is also authorized to create rules necessary for the implementation of this provision.
To support this initiative, the bill appropriates $250,000 from the General Revenue Fund for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2027, to the DHS for carrying out the requirements of the bill. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and includes an emergency clause to ensure its immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
