This bill amends existing laws related to the State Register of Historic Places and the establishment of state trails on federal lands in Oklahoma. It requires legislative approval for the designation of historic places nominated to the National Register of Historic Places after the effective date of the act, ensuring that all such nominations must receive legislative consent before being listed on the State Register. Additionally, the bill clarifies that the State Historic Preservation Officer, in consultation with the Oklahoma Historic Preservation Review Committee, will establish the procedures and criteria for listing in the State Register.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Commission shall not establish or designate state trails on federal lands without prior legislative approval. It also prohibits the expenditure of any funds towards state trails designated under this new requirement without legislative consent. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2026.
