This bill mandates the State Department of Education to develop and provide a curriculum focused on the awareness and prevention of domestic violence and human trafficking for high school students in grades nine through twelve. The curriculum must be available before the 2027-2028 school year and will cover essential topics such as recognizing and preventing domestic violence, understanding the warning signs of dating violence, promoting healthy relationships, and ensuring the content is age-appropriate and medically accurate. The curriculum can be taught as a standalone unit or integrated into existing courses, and the Department is required to post the curriculum and resources on its website for school districts.

Additionally, the bill allows school districts to begin teaching these concepts during the 2027-2028 school year and includes a provision for parents or legal guardians to opt their children out of the curriculum. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and includes an emergency clause to ensure its immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
