This bill mandates that starting in the 2026-2027 school year, all public school districts in Oklahoma must designate at least one day each year as "industry day" for students in grades nine through twelve. The purpose of this day is to allow students to explore career opportunities available within the state. To facilitate this, school districts are required to collaborate with local employers, career and technology centers, and institutions of higher education to provide students with information about various career paths and the necessary education and training for those careers.
Additionally, the bill allows for the incorporation of industry day into the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) process and encourages the inclusion of information regarding apprenticeship, internship, or mentorship programs. The State Board of Education is given the authority to create rules to implement these provisions. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2026, and includes an emergency clause for immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
