This bill amends Section 1.4a of Title 53 of the Oklahoma Statutes, which pertains to the Office of Tribal Relations within the Oklahoma Historical Society. The amendments include a change in how records, documents, and materials related to negotiations and agreements between tribal governments and the state are organized, specifying that they should be accessible to the public in both paper and electronic formats. Additionally, the Office of Tribal Relations is granted the authority to consult various sources, including state agencies and tribal governments, to gather necessary information for its duties.
Furthermore, the bill mandates that the Office of Tribal Relations must provide an electronic, updated copy of the organized materials to each member of the Oklahoma Legislature by December 1 of every even-numbered year, and a physical copy after each gubernatorial election. The Oklahoma Historical Society is also required to provide suitable office space for the Office of Tribal Relations. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
