This bill establishes the rural mental health and treatment diversion pilot programs in Oklahoma, aimed at redirecting individuals with mental health issues away from the criminal justice system and into suitable treatment programs. The Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services is tasked with developing and implementing these programs, contingent upon available funding. Additionally, the Department is authorized to enter into contracts necessary for the execution of these pilot programs.

To facilitate the implementation of these initiatives, the Department's Board will promulgate the necessary rules. The bill is set to take effect on November 1, 2025, marking a significant step towards improving mental health treatment accessibility in rural areas and reducing the burden on the criminal justice system.
