This bill amends 70 O.S. 2021, Section 1-116, to include new definitions for "physical therapist" and "occupational therapist." It grants these professionals the same legal protections and benefits as certified teachers when employed full-time by a board of education. The definitions specify that a physical therapist must hold current certification from the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy, while an occupational therapist must be certified by the National Board for Certification of Occupational Therapy. Both must also be licensed to practice in Oklahoma according to the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.
Additionally, the bill updates the numbering of the definitions, replacing the previous number 9 with 11 to accommodate the new insertions. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025, and includes an emergency clause, allowing it to be enacted immediately upon passage and approval.
