This bill mandates the inclusion of media literacy and cybersecurity education in Oklahoma public schools, requiring students entering the sixth grade in the 2027-2028 school year to complete a course in these subjects during grades six, seven, or eight. The course will cover essential topics such as identifying online scams, protecting personal information, recognizing fake news, and understanding artificial intelligence. The instruction will be structured as a one-half unit course, with provisions for exceptions for students transferring into Oklahoma schools from out of state after the eighth grade.

Additionally, the State Board of Education is tasked with adopting curriculum standards for media literacy and cybersecurity, which will be integrated into the state's academic content standards. The State Department of Education is responsible for developing guidelines, materials, and resources to support schools in implementing this course, as well as providing professional development for teachers. A report detailing the curriculum standards will be submitted to legislative leaders within thirty days of their completion. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
