This bill mandates the inclusion of media literacy and cybersecurity education in Oklahoma public schools, requiring students entering the sixth grade in the 2027-2028 school year to complete a course in these subjects during grades six, seven, or eight. The course will cover essential topics such as identifying online scams, protecting personal information, recognizing fake news, and understanding artificial intelligence. The instruction will be structured as a one-half unit course, with provisions for exceptions for students transferring from out of state during or after the eighth grade.

The State Board of Education is tasked with adopting curriculum standards for this instruction, which will be integrated into the existing academic content standards. Additionally, the State Department of Education is responsible for developing guidelines, materials, and professional development programs to support teachers in delivering this curriculum. A report detailing the established standards must be submitted to the legislative leaders within thirty days of completion. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
