Senate Bill No. 1006 aims to regulate the actions of state agencies in Oklahoma concerning diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. The bill defines DEI and prohibits state agencies from engaging in practices that grant preferential treatment based on race, color, sex, ethnicity, or national origin. It specifically forbids agencies from establishing DEI positions or programs, requiring participation in DEI training, or mandating loyalty oaths that favor any particular group. Additionally, the bill prohibits requiring job applicants to submit DEI statements for preferential consideration.
The enforcement of this legislation will be overseen by the Office of the Attorney General, which is tasked with reporting any violations to key legislative leaders. If a violation is found, the Legislature is required to reduce the agency's appropriation by one percent in the next fiscal year or, if the agency does not receive regular appropriations, to increase its deposits into the General Revenue Fund by the same percentage. The bill is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
