This bill amends Section 1000.23 of the Oklahoma Uniform Building Code Commission to require the Commission to adopt the International Residential Code specifically for two-unit to six-unit residential buildings. It emphasizes that the codes and standards established by the Commission will serve as minimum standards for residential and commercial construction across the state. Additionally, the bill clarifies that while state agencies and municipalities can enforce higher standards, they cannot impose stricter requirements than those set forth in the International Residential Code for family and large child care homes.
Furthermore, the bill mandates the Department of Human Services to collaborate with the State Fire Marshal to create guidelines that allow family and large child care homes to operate under the fire protection requirements of the International Residential Code. It ensures that these child care homes cannot be denied a license based on compliance with these requirements and prohibits any local government from imposing stricter fire safety regulations. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
