Senate Bill No. 928 establishes new legal definitions and penalties related to assault and battery against county employees in Oklahoma. The bill defines "county employee" to include any person employed by a county or a contractor working with the county. It creates two specific offenses: a misdemeanor for committing assault, battery, or assault and battery against a county employee, punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000; and a felony for committing aggravated battery or aggravated assault and battery against a county employee, punishable by up to two years in prison and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
Additionally, the bill mandates that every county site must display a notice warning that felony charges may be filed against individuals committing aggravated assault or battery against county employees. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
