The proposed legislation, known as the Food is Medicine Act, aims to enhance nutrition services within the Oklahoma Medicaid program by creating financial incentives for contracted entities that improve health outcomes through these services. The Oklahoma Health Care Authority is tasked with seeking federal approval to implement the Food is Medicine Initiative, which will cover various nutrition services such as case management, nutrition counseling, meal provisions, and grocery supplies. This initiative is designed to improve health outcomes for Medicaid members and reduce their reliance on medical care.

Additionally, the State Department of Education will provide technical assistance to schools applying for grants under the Oklahoma Farm to School Program Act, helping them expand student access to fresh and healthy food. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025, and includes provisions for noncodification and an emergency declaration to ensure its immediate implementation upon passage.
