The bill amends Section 5-132 of Title 70 of the Oklahoma Statutes to extend the age limit for individuals seeking to complete their high school education. Specifically, it raises the upper age limit from twenty-six (26) to thirty (30) years old for residents who have not completed the twelfth grade. Additionally, starting in the 2025-2026 school year, individuals applying for high school completion must do so through a school district that offers a full-time virtual education program, and they must utilize this program exclusively for their high school education.
Furthermore, the bill exempts individuals attending adult high school completion programs from taking certain student assessments and from being included in specific educational reports. This change aims to provide greater educational opportunities for older individuals who have not completed high school while also streamlining the reporting requirements for school districts. The act is set to take effect on July 1, 2025, and includes an emergency clause for immediate implementation upon passage and approval.
