This bill amends Section 901.25a of Title 19 of the Oklahoma Statutes to facilitate the consolidation of fire protection districts when their territories are contiguous. It allows the boards of directors of two or more fire protection districts to develop a consolidation plan, which includes combining board members, determining the millage levy, and addressing asset ownership and indebtedness. The plan must be presented to the county commissioners, who will set a hearing to allow public input on the proposed consolidation. The bill outlines the process for notifying the public about the hearing and the subsequent election to approve the consolidation.

Additionally, the bill specifies that if the county commissioners determine that the consolidation would enhance public safety, they will approve the proposed district and call for an election among qualified electors in the area. The election will follow general election laws, and if at least three-fifths of the votes are in favor, the territory will be officially organized as a single fire protection district. The effective date for this act is set for November 1, 2025.
