Senate Bill No. 693 aims to address concerns regarding the impact of social media on mental health by requiring social media platforms to display a prominent warning message. This warning must be shown to users accessing the platform for the first time and to established users once daily. The warning will last for sixty seconds, during which the platform will be rendered unusable, and it will convey that there is reasonable evidence suggesting social media can be hazardous to mental health, particularly for young children, teenagers, and young adults. The bill also specifies that these requirements do not apply to text messaging platforms or those primarily focused on education or healthcare.

Additionally, the bill empowers the Attorney General to take civil action against social media platforms that fail to comply with these provisions, allowing for injunctive relief or other appropriate remedies as determined by the court. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
