Senate Bill No. 693 aims to address concerns regarding the impact of social media on mental health by requiring social media platforms to display a prominent warning message to users. The bill defines "social media platform" and "user," and mandates that these platforms show a warning message for 60 seconds to first-time users and once daily to established users. The warning states that there is reasonable evidence suggesting social media is hazardous to mental health, particularly for young children, teenagers, and young adults. However, the bill exempts text messaging platforms and those primarily focused on education or healthcare.

Additionally, the bill grants the Attorney General the authority to take civil action against social media platforms that fail to comply with these requirements, allowing for injunctive relief or other appropriate remedies as determined by the court. The provisions of this act are set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
