This bill establishes new procedures for handling cases involving school employees who are being investigated for, arrested in relation to, or charged with offenses against students, specifically those involving sexual abuse or exploitation. It mandates that law enforcement notify the superintendent and the board of education upon such incidents. Upon receiving this notification, the school board is required to suspend the employee without notice or hearing, ensuring that the suspension does not affect the employee's compensation or benefits. The employee is also prohibited from being on school premises during the suspension and cannot resign during this period. Additionally, the suspension may extend until the conclusion of any criminal trial, excluding the appeal process.

Furthermore, the superintendent must inform the parents and legal guardians of students about the situation, including a statement that the employee is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The State Board of Education is tasked with creating rules to implement these provisions. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2025, and includes an emergency clause for immediate enforcement upon passage and approval.
