This bill establishes a new section in the Oklahoma Statutes that mandates health benefit plans to provide specific coverage for contraceptive drugs. It defines "contraceptive drugs" as those approved by the FDA for pregnancy prevention and outlines that any health benefit plan offered, issued, or renewed after the effective date must allow enrollees to obtain a three-month supply of a contraceptive drug upon the first prescription and a twelve-month supply for subsequent prescriptions. However, enrollees are limited to one twelve-month supply of a covered prescription drug within a twelve-month period.
Additionally, the bill clarifies that enrollees can request smaller supplies of contraceptive drugs if deemed appropriate by their prescribing provider. Importantly, it specifies that the coverage requirement does not extend to medications intended to terminate an existing pregnancy. The act is set to take effect on November 1, 2025.
