This bill proposes an increase in benefits for certain members of the Oklahoma Police Pension and Retirement System. Specifically, it stipulates that any individual receiving benefits as of June 30, 2025, who has been retired for five years or more, will receive a four percent increase in their benefits. This increase is contingent upon the effective date of the act and is aimed at providing financial support to long-term retirees.
However, there is an exception outlined in subsection B for members who joined the system prior to January 1, 1981. For these individuals, any pension increase or decrease will be adjusted by one-third of any corresponding change to the base salary of a regular police officer. Consequently, any benefits increase that these members are eligible for after July 1, 2020, will be offset by the benefits increase provided by this bill.
