This bill amends the Oklahoma Firefighters Pension and Retirement System by introducing a new section that provides for a five percent (5%) increase in benefits for members receiving benefits as of June 30, 2025, who continue to receive benefits after the effective date of the act. However, there is an exception for members who joined prior to January 1, 1981, whose pension adjustments will be offset by any increases or decreases in the salary of regular firefighters in their municipality. The term "regular firefighter" is defined as a salaried firefighter who has reached the maximum salary as a private and has not been promoted.
Additionally, starting July 1, 2026, individuals receiving benefits under Section 49-101 of Title 11 will also receive a five percent (5%) increase based on the amount specified in Section 49-143.7 of Title 11. This legislation aims to enhance the financial support for Oklahoma firefighters while ensuring that adjustments are made in consideration of salary changes within their respective municipalities.
