11 A Concurrent Resolution declaring 2024 as the Year of
11 the Bible in Oklahoma; recognizing the unique
12 contribution the Bible has made in shaping the United
12 States; acknowledging that biblical teachings
13 inspired concepts contained in the Declaration of
13 Independence and the Constitution of the United
14 States; recognizing that many presidents paid tribute
14 to the influence of the Bible; and stating that a
15 renewal of knowledge and faith in God through
15 scripture can strengthen the state.

19 WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan declared 1983 the Year of the
19
20 Bible; and
20
21 WHEREAS, the Bible, the Word of God, has made a unique
21
22 contribution in shaping the United States as a distinctive and
22
23 blessed nation and people; and

1 WHEREAS, deeply held religious convictions springing from the
1
2 Holy Scriptures led to the early settlement of our nation; and
2
3 WHEREAS, Biblical teachings inspired concepts of civil
3
4 government that are contained in our Declaration of Independence and
4
5 the Constitution of the United States; and
5
6 WHEREAS, many of our great national leaders, among them
6
7 Presidents Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, and Wilson, have paid
7
8 tribute to the surpassing influence of the Bible in our country’s
8
9 development, and in the words of President Jackson, the Bible is
9
10 “the rock on which our Republic rests”; and
10
11 WHEREAS, the history of our nation clearly illustrates the value
11
12 of voluntarily applying the teachings of the Holy Scriptures in the
12
13 lives of individuals, families, and societies; and
13
14 WHEREAS, this state and nation now face great challenges that
14
15 will test us as we have never been tested before; and
15
16 WHEREAS, renewing our knowledge of and faith in God through the
16
17 Holy Scriptures can strengthen us as a state, a nation, and a
17
18 people.

19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
19
20 OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
20
21 CONCURRING THEREIN:
21
22 THAT the Oklahoma Legislature hereby authorizes and requests the
22
23 Governor, Executive branch, and all subdivisions of this state to
23
24 designate 2024 as the Year of the Bible in the State of Oklahoma in
24

1 recognition of the formative influence the Bible has been for our
1
2 state, and our national need to study and apply the teachings of the
2
3 Holy Scriptures.
