8 A Resolution designating the second week in May as
8 Lung Cancer Action Week.

11 WHEREAS, in 2024, the LUNG FORCE initiative celebrates a decade
11
12 of progress to defeat lung cancer in Oklahoma; and
12
13 WHEREAS, about every two minutes, a person in the United States
13
14 is diagnosed with lung cancer; and
14
15 WHEREAS, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths; and
15
16 WHEREAS, lung cancer screening saves lives, and advocacy and
16
17 increased awareness will result in more high-risk individuals
17
18 getting screened; and
18
19 WHEREAS, in Oklahoma, only 1.7% of those at high risk receive a
19
20 lung cancer screening; and
20
21 WHEREAS, public support for research funding will result in new
21
22 treatments and better methods of early detection; and
22
23 WHEREAS, LUNG FORCE is a national initiative led by the American
23
24 Lung Association to defeat lung cancer.

 1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

2 OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:

3 THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives hereby designates the
3
4 second week in May as Lung Cancer Action Week throughout the state
4
5 and encourages all residents of Oklahoma to learn more about lung
5
6 cancer, risk factors and early detection, and take action.
