A Resolution recognizing April 21 through April 27,

8 2024, as National Crime Victims' Rights Week;
recognizing and supporting victims' rights; and

9 directing distribution.

WHEREAS, National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is April 21-27,
12

2024; and
14

WHEREAS, the theme for National Crime Victims' Rights Week this
15
14
year is "How would you help?"; and
16
15
WHEREAS, advocates believe all victims deserve equal rights
16
17
throughout the judicial system; and
18
17
WHEREAS, the victims' rights being pursued aim to provide
19
18
coequal protections that are no more and no less than the rights
20
19
afforded to those accused and convicted of crimes; and
21

WHEREAS, consideration, awareness, and a voice for victims are
22
21
central to the remembrance of victims; and

1 WHEREAS, every victim should always be treated with fairness and

2 respect throughout the criminal justice process, protected from the
2
3 defendant, provided reasonable opportunities to be heard at public
3
4 proceedings regarding his or her case, and given a voice throughout
4
5 each process of the case; and
5
6 WHEREAS, National Crime Victims' Rights Week serves to recognize
6
7 the needs of crime victims and those statewide advocacy
7
8 organizations that are dedicated to guaranteeing victims' rights.

9 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

10 OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:

11 THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives recognizes the week
11
12 of April 21-27, 2024, as National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
12
13 THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives supports the efforts
13
14 of advocacy organizations throughout the State of Oklahoma to
14
15 continue recognizing and supporting victims' rights.
15
16 THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives reaffirms its
16
17 commitment to help protect the rights of all Oklahoma crime victims,
17
18 year-round.
18
19 THAT a copy of this resolution be distributed to the District
19
20 Attorneys Council, Victims Services Division.
