10 A Concurrent Resolution to recognize the
10 establishment of OSU Extension and its impact on the
11 State of Oklahoma; and designating the 16th of April
11 as a celebration of its significance over the past
12 110 years and into the future.

15 WHEREAS, May 8, 2024, marks the 110th anniversary of the signing
15
16 of the Smith-Lever Act in the United States Congress, which
16
17 established Cooperative Extension, the nationwide transformational
17
18 education system operating through land-grant universities in
18
19 partnership with federal, state and local governments; and
19
20 WHEREAS, the Smith-Lever Act provided that Cooperative Extension
20
21 work shall consist of the development of practical applications of
21
22 research-based knowledge and giving of instruction and demonstration
22
23 of technologies, and carrying out these functions in the spirit and
23
24 rich traditions of the land-grant university mission; and

 1 WHEREAS, Oklahoma State University Extension, through a network
1
2 of offices in all 77 counties, provides education and resources in
2
3 agriculture and natural resources, community economic development,
3
4 family and consumer sciences, community health, and 4-H Youth
4
5 Development; and
5
6 WHEREAS, 12,000 young people in Oklahoma are enrolled 4-H
6
7 members and 4-H programming through schools and clubs reaches more
7
8 than 175,000 others; and
8
9 WHEREAS, dedicated and committed volunteers play a pivotal role
9
10 in the success of OSU Extension contributing over 236,000 hours of
10
11 service in 2023; and
11
12 WHEREAS, OSU Extension, working hand-in-hand with OSU
12
13 Agriculture, continues to provide Education Everywhere for Everyone.

14 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

15 OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE, THE SENATE

16 CONCURRING THEREIN:
16
17 THAT the Oklahoma House of Representatives and the Oklahoma
17
18 State Senate, on behalf of the people of the Great State of
18
19 Oklahoma, as we gather for Agriculture Day at the Capitol on this
19
20 16th day of April 2024, declare this a celebration of the
20
21 establishment of OSU Extension, as well as its significance not only
21
22 over the past 110 years, but now and into the future.
