8 AS INTRODUCED

9 A Concurrent Resolution proclaiming November 23,
9 2024, as Oklahoma Native American Warrior Day;
10 encouraging Oklahomans to participate; and directing
10 distribution.

13 WHEREAS, the month of November celebrates Veterans Day and is
13
14 recognized as Native American Heritage Month; and
14
15 WHEREAS, the Native American warrior has served the State of
15
16 Oklahoma with honor, courage, and distinction and made the ultimate
16
17 sacrifice; and
17
18 WHEREAS, during the twentieth century, more than twelve thousand
18
19 warriors served in World War I and ten thousand Native American
19
20 women joined the American Red Cross, and over forty-four thousand
20
21 warriors and eight hundred Native American women served in World War
21
22 II; and
22
23 WHEREAS, since 9/11, Native Americans have served at a higher
23
24 per capita rate than any other ethnic group; and

1 WHEREAS, the Force 50 Foundation is leading an effort to honor
1
2 and celebrate the Native American warrior with several events in
2
3 November, culminating in a special, nationally recognized event on
3
4 November 23, 2024.

5 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
5
6 OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

7 CONCURRING THEREIN:
7
8 THAT the Oklahoma State Legislature proclaims November 23, 2024,
8
9 as Oklahoma Native American Warrior Day, honoring all Native
9
10 American warriors.
10
11 THAT the Oklahoma State Legislature encourages all Oklahomans
11
12 and businesses to participate in and support appropriately the
12
13 efforts of the Force 50 Foundation to make all November events
13
14 historic and successful.
14
15 THAT the Oklahoma State Legislature encourages the Governor and
15
16 appropriate state agencies to support this historic project.
16
17 THAT copies of this resolution be distributed to: Governor
17
18 Kevin Stitt; Coach Barry Switzer, Project Honorary Chairman; former
18
19 Governor George Nigh, Special Advisor; Governor Bill Anoatubby of
19
20 the Chickasaw Nation, Special Advisor; and Pete Reed, Project
20
21 Coordinator.
