7 A Resolution congratulating the University of
7 Oklahoma women's gymnastics team for winning the 2023
8 National Collegiate Athletic Association's women's
8 gymnastics national title.

11 WHEREAS, the 2023 University of Oklahoma women's gymnastics
11
12 team, under the guidance of Head Coach K.J. Kindler, finished with a
12
13 28-2 record, was ranked No. 1 the entire season and won the
13
14 program's sixth national championship by tying its own NCAA finals
14
15 record with a score of 198.3875; and
15
16 WHEREAS, the Sooners defeated No. 2 Florida, No. 5 Utah, and No.
16
17 6 LSU to win their second consecutive NCAA championship, third in
17
18 the last four years and sixth in the last nine years; and
18
19 WHEREAS, OU posted a nation-leading 10 scores of at least 198,
19
20 tying its own NCAA single-season record; and
20
21 WHEREAS, Olivia Trautman won the NCAA vault title, becoming the
21
22 seventh Sooner and first since 2021 to win an individual national
22
23 championship; and

1 WHEREAS, eight Sooners earned a total of 10 NCAA All-America
1
2 honors, including five first-team accolades; and
2
3 WHEREAS, six Sooners earned a total of 10 WCGA regular season
3
4 All-America honors, with all six earning first-team acclaim and
4
5 Jordan Bowers joining Maggie Nichols as the only gymnasts in program
5
6 history to garner five All-America honors during a regular season;
6
7 and
7
8 WHEREAS, Meilin Sullivan was named the NCAA Elite 90 Award
8
9 winner, becoming the fifth Sooner and second OU gymnast to earn the
9
10 honor; and
10
11 WHEREAS, the Sooners won their 13th straight NCAA regional title
11
12 to advance to their 19th consecutive NCAA Championships; and
12
13 WHEREAS, OU won its 10th conference title in the last 11 years
13
14 with the highest score in Big 12 Championship history with a
14
15 198.400; and
15
16 WHEREAS, six Sooners won a total of eight individual conference
16
17 championships and claimed every event title and the all-around
17
18 crown; and
18
19 WHEREAS, Faith Torrez was honored as Big 12 Newcomer of the
19
20 Year, Katherine LeVasseur as Big 12 Event Specialist of the Year and
20
21 Head Coach K.J. Kindler as Big 12 Coach of the Year for the 12th
21
22 time as a Sooner.

23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

1 THAT the House of Representatives expresses profound

2 appreciation to Head Coach K.J. Kindler and the 2023 OU women's
2
3 gymnastics team for the excitement and pride they bring to the
3
4 University of Oklahoma, the State of Oklahoma and to Sooners
4
5 everywhere, and for the exemplary manner in which they represented
5
6 the University of Oklahoma and added to its tradition of excellence.
