6 AS INTRODUCED
7 A Resolution congratulating the University of
Oklahoma Sooners softball team for winning the 2023
8 NCAA Women's College World Series.

11 WHEREAS, the 2022 Oklahoma softball team, under the direction of
12 Head Coach Patty Gasso, swept rival University of Texas in the
13 Women's College World Series Championship Series, to win its second
14 consecutive national title; and
15 WHEREAS, the 2023 OU softball team swept No. 3 seed Florida
16 State in the Women's College World Series Championship Series to
17 claim the program's third straight national championship; and
18 WHEREAS, the Sooners, over the 49-year history of the University
19 of Oklahoma softball program, have won seven national championships,
20 including five in the past seven years and six in the past 10 years;
21 and have competed in 16 Women's College World Series, including 11
22 of the last 12; and
23 WHEREAS, the 2023 OU softball team set the NCAA Division I
24 record for longest winning streak, registering 53 victories in a row
1 to break a 26-year-old record previously held by the University of
2 Arizona at 47 straight victories; and
3 WHEREAS, a nation-leading five Sooners were named 2023 NFCA
4 First-Team All-Americans; and
5 WHEREAS, OU went undefeated in 2023 conference play for just the
6 fourth time in the league's history, finishing 18-0 and winning the
7 program's 11th consecutive Big 12 regular season title and 15th
8 overall; and
9 WHEREAS, the Sooners completed the Big 12 title sweep by winning
10 the 2023 Big 12 Softball Championship in Oklahoma City, the
11 program's eighth conference tournament crown; and
12 WHEREAS, Head Coach Patty Gasso was named Big 12 Coach of the
13 Year for the 11th consecutive season in 2023 and 15th time overall;
14 and
15 WHEREAS, OU placed eight student-athletes on the 2023 All-Big 12
16 teams, including a league-high seven on the first team; and
17 WHEREAS, Oklahoma student-athletes took home three 2023
18 conference individual awards in Big 12 Player of the Year Jayda
19 Coleman, Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Jordy Bahl and Big 12 Defensive
20 Player of the Year Grace Lyons; and
21 WHEREAS, the 2023 team went undefeated at home in the 25th and
22 final campaign at Marita Hynes Field, finishing 19-0 to extend OU's
23 home field winning streak to 65 games.

1 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
2 OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
3 THAT the House of Representatives expresses profound
4 appreciation to Head Coach Patty Gasso and the 2022 and 2023 OU
5 softball teams for the excitement and pride they bring to the
6 University of Oklahoma, the State of Oklahoma and to Sooners
7 everywhere, and for the exemplary manner in which they represented
8 the University of Oklahoma and added to its tradition of excellence.
