9 A Concurrent Resolution honoring the life and
9 distinguished career of Lieutenant General Thomas P.
10 Stafford; and directing distribution.

13 WHEREAS, Thomas Patten Stafford was born in Weatherford,
13
14 Oklahoma, on September 17, 1930; and
14
15 WHEREAS, Stafford was a Weatherford Eagle through and through,
15
16 and often pointed to his hometown as the starting point for his
16
17 incredible journey in life and career; and
17
18 WHEREAS, Stafford flew in four historic space missions, three of
18
19 which he commanded, and spent a total of 508 hours in space; and
19
20 WHEREAS, Stafford flew nearly 130 different types of military
20
21 aircraft and flew four different spacecraft; and
21
22 WHEREAS, Lieutenant General Stafford served in various roles
22
23 throughout his remarkable career including test pilot instructor,
23
24 author, NASA Chief of the Astronaut Office, Deputy Director of

 1 Flight Crew Operations at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center,

2 Commanding General of Edwards Air Force Base, Area 51 Commanding
2
3 General, head of Air Force Research and Development and Acquisition,
3
4 and primary defense advisor to President Ronald Reagan, among
4
5 countless other board and advisory positions; and
5
6 WHEREAS, the Stafford Air and Space Museum in Weatherford
6
7 highlights Lieutenant General Stafford’s career and will continue
7
8 sharing the legacy of this incredible Oklahoman through its exhibits
8
9 and educational events.

10 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION

11 OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

12 CONCURRING THEREIN:
12
13 THAT the Oklahoma State Legislature honors the incredible life
13
14 and career of Lieutenant General Thomas P. Stafford.
14
15 THAT copies of this resolution be distributed to the Stafford
15
16 Air and Space Museum and the General Thomas P. Stafford Archives at
16
17 the Al Harris Library at Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
