8 A Resolution declaring April 16, 2024, as Oklahoma
8 Agriculture Day; recognizing and celebrating
9 agriculture’s impact on our state’s heritage and
9 economy; and directing distribution.

13 WHEREAS, agriculture is one of Oklahoma’s leading industries and
13
14 its associated production, processing, and marketing segments
14
15 together provide close to 200,000 jobs and contribute more than $28
15
16 billion to our state’s economy; and
16
17 WHEREAS, Oklahoma ranks fourth nationally with more than 70,000
17
18 farms and ranches, utilizing 33 million acres of Oklahoma’s rich
18
19 land to provide food, fiber, and other basic necessities of life to
19
20 not only Oklahomans, but the nation and world; and
20
21 WHEREAS, Oklahoma is known as the nation’s premiere spot for
21
22 wheat production and research, ranking sixth for winter wheat
22
23 bushels harvested annually and ninth for total bushels harvested;

1 WHEREAS, Oklahoma is also America’s second leading provider of
1
2 beef cattle with nearly two million head and has the third most
2
3 cattle operations at more than 52,000, featuring over 4.5 million
3
4 beef and dairy cattle; and
4
5 WHEREAS, Oklahoma also ranks as the fourth top provider of rye
5
6 nationally and is one of the highest producers of soy beans, cotton,
6
7 poultry, and pork in the U.S.; and
7
8 WHEREAS, agriculture provides a major source of employment for
8
9 Oklahoma’s workforce, with one in 50 jobs supported by the pork
9
10 industry and another 30,000 people employed by the poultry industry
10
11 as just two examples of the vast reach and importance of agriculture
11
12 in our state; and
12
13 WHEREAS, agriculture’s success is vital to maintaining the
13
14 strength of Oklahoma’s economy, the standard of living for our
14
15 citizens, and our presence in the world trade market; and
15
16 WHEREAS, it is important that all Oklahomans understand the role
16
17 that agriculture plays in their daily lives and well-being, whether
17
18 they live in urban or rural areas.

19 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
19
20 OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:
20
21 THAT the Oklahoma State Senate declares April 16, 2024, as
21
22 Oklahoma Agriculture Day at the Capitol.
22
23 THAT the Oklahoma State Senate recognizes and celebrates
23
24 agriculture’s impact on our state’s heritage and economy.
