9 A Concurrent Resolution designating April 15 as
9 Purple Up! For Military Kids Day in Oklahoma; and
10 thanking military families.

13 WHEREAS, April is celebrated around the world as Month of the
13
14 Military Child with a special focus on April 15 as Purple Up! For
14
15 Military Kids Day; and
15
16 WHEREAS, the Month of the Military Child was established in 1986
16
17 by former United States Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger to
17
18 recognize the sacrifices made by military families and the important
18
19 role military children play in the armed forces community; and
19
20 WHEREAS, military children are special — just as their parents’
20
21 service requires tremendous sacrifice, so does theirs. This
21
22 includes frequent moves to watching their parents deployed numerous
22
23 times to combat zones around the world, and all the while not
23
24 knowing if their parents will return home safely; and

 1 WHEREAS, military children represent the best of today’s youth.

2 The strength and resilience they demonstrate through a multitude of
2
3 hardships deserves to be recognized and applauded; and
3
4 WHEREAS, there is a tradition in the military of wearing the
4
5 color purple, or the “purple suit”, referring to a military activity
5
6 involving all branches of the military. All the service colors are
6
7 represented including Air Force blue, Army green, Navy blue, Marine
7
8 red, and Coast Guard blue, which are said to combine for the mutual
8
9 benefit of all into the color purple; and
9
10 WHEREAS, on April 15, the act of wearing purple supports and
10
11 celebrates the unique contributions of military children.

12 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE 2ND SESSION
12
13 OF THE 59TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
13
14 CONCURRING THEREIN:
14
15 THAT the Oklahoma State Senate designates April 15 as Purple Up!
15
16 For Military Kids Day in Oklahoma.
16
17 THAT the Oklahoma State Senate thanks military families and
17
18 their children for their service and sacrifice to our great nation
18
19 and state.
