7 An Act relating to motor vehicles; amending Section
7 1, Chapter 214, O.S.L. 2022 (47 O.S. Supp. 2023,
8 Section 1-133.1a), which relates definition of
8 military surplus vehicles; modifying definition of
9 military surplus vehicles; and providing an effective
9 date.

12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

13 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY Section 1, Chapter 214, O.S.L.
13
14 2022 (47 O.S. Supp. 2023, Section 1-133.1a), is amended to read as
14
15 follows:
15
16 Section 1-133.1a Military surplus vehicle.
16
17 A. A "military surplus vehicle" is any motor vehicle having:
17
18 1. Three axles or fewer that meet the legal size and weight
18
19 limits set forth in Section 14-103 of Title 47 of the Oklahoma
19
20 Statutes this title;

21 2. An age less than thirty-five (35) years old and was Been
21
22 manufactured for use in either the United States Armed Forces or any
22
23 country that was a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization
23
24 at the time the vehicle was manufactured. Such vehicle shall have

 1 been subsequently authorized for sale to civilians, except that

2 military surplus vehicle does not include a tracked vehicle;

3 3. For each occupant, safety belts or safety shoulder harnesses
3
4 which shall be installed pursuant to 49 C.F.R., Section 571.208 et
4
5 seq.; and
5
6 4. Equipment required by the provisions of Sections 12-201
6
7 through 12-232 of Title 47 of the Oklahoma Statutes this title, with
7
8 respect to equipment on vehicles.

9 B. A military surplus vehicle operated on the streets and
9
10 highways of this state shall be registered as a motor vehicle.
10
11 C. Military surplus vehicles may be used as other vehicles of
11
12 the same type, except military surplus vehicles may not transport
12
13 people for hire.

14 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2024.
