7 An Act relating to sheriffs and sheriff's deputies;
7 establishing a minimum salary for sheriff's deputies;
8 amending 28 O.S. 2021, Section 153.2, which relates
8 to the Sheriff's Service Fee Account; modifying fee;
9 providing for codification; and providing an
9 effective date.

13 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:

14 SECTION 1. NEW LAW A new section of law to be codified
14
15 in the Oklahoma Statutes as Section 180.65A of Title 19, unless
15
16 there is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows:

17 Sheriff's deputies shall have a minimum starting annual salary
17
18 of Thirty-Five Thousand Dollars ($35,000).

19 SECTION 2. AMENDATORY 28 O.S. 2021, Section 153.2, is
19
20 amended to read as follows:

21 Section 153.2 In any criminal case in which a defendant is
21
22 arrested for a violation of state law, Five Dollars ($5.00) Ten
22
23 Dollars ($10.00) of the costs charged in said case as provided for
23
24 in Section 153 of Title 28 of the Oklahoma Statutes shall be paid to

 1 the Sheriff's Service Fee Account of the sheriff of the county in
1
2 which the arrest was made. This fee shall be in addition to the fee
2
3 authorized by Section 153 of Title 28 of the Oklahoma Statutes and
3
4 shall be used to defer the costs associated with arrest.

5 SECTION 3. This act shall become effective November 1, 2024.
