7 An Act relating to professions and occupations;
amending 59 O.S. 2021, Section 1607, which relates to
8 the Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology
and Audiology; extending sunset date; updating
9 statutory language; providing an effective date; and
declaring an emergency.

12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
13 SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 59 O.S. 2021, Section 1607, is
14 amended to read as follows:
15 Section 1607. A. There is hereby re-created, to continue until
16 July 1, 2024 July 1, 2027, in accordance with the provisions of the
17 Oklahoma Sunset Law, the Board of Examiners for Speech-Language
18 Pathology and Audiology whose duty it is to administer the
19 provisions of the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Licensing
20 Act. The members of the Board shall be residents of this state and
21 shall be appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of
22 the Senate. The Board shall be composed of five (5) members
23 consisting of three licensed speech-language pathologists or
24 audiologists, provided that at least one of the three shall be a

1 licensed speech-language pathologist and at least one, a licensed
2 audiologist; one otolaryngologist who is certified by the American
3 Board of Otolaryngology and one lay member.
4 B. The members of the original Board shall serve the following
5 terms: one member for one (1) year, two members for two (2) years,
6 and two members for three (3) years. Thereafter, at the expiration
7 of the term, or termination of the member’s service for any reason,
8 the Governor shall appoint each successor for a term of three (3)
9 years, or for the remainder of an unexpired term. The successor for
10 any of the three speech-language pathologists or audiologists will
11 be selected from a list of five licensed speech-language
12 pathologists or audiologists, furnished by the Oklahoma Speech-
13 Language-Hearing Association. The re-creation of the Board shall
14 not affect the staggered terms of office for Board members
15 established with the original Board.
16 C. Before entering upon the duties of the member’s office, each
17 member of the Board shall take the Constitutional constitutional
18 oath of office and file it with the Secretary of State.
19 D. Board members may be reappointed to serve one additional
20 three-year term. Three (3) years after the termination of a
21 previous appointment to the Board, a member may be reappointed for
22 one additional three-year term.

1 E. Board members shall be reimbursed for travel expenses
2 incurred in the performance of their duties as provided in the State
3 Travel Reimbursement Act.
4 SECTION 2. This act shall become effective July 1, 2024.
5 SECTION 3. It being immediately necessary for the preservation
6 of the public peace, health or safety, an emergency is hereby
7 declared to exist, by reason whereof this act shall take effect and
8 be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
