The bill mandates the Ohio Department of Health to conduct a one-year statewide study on the prevalence of cholestatic liver disorders among women aged thirty-five to forty-five who are enrolled in the Ohio Medicaid program. The study aims to gather key demographic information, assess the percentage of high-risk participants who do not follow through with medical referrals or treatment, and identify other relevant issues related to these liver disorders.
Upon completion of the study, the Department is required to compile the findings into a written report that includes recommendations for increasing awareness of cholestatic liver disorders, strategies for enhancing screening and genetic testing, and suggestions for fostering public-private partnerships to secure sustainable funding for research and testing. The report must be submitted to the General Assembly by December 31, 2028, and all collected data will be managed in compliance with applicable privacy laws.
