The bill amends section 4513.36 of the Revised Code to broaden the scope of the prohibition against interfering with law enforcement during arrests related to motor vehicle laws. It specifies that no person shall resist or obstruct law enforcement officials while they are attempting to arrest an offender for violations of any section contained in Title XLV of the Revised Code or equivalent municipal ordinances. The bill also removes the previous language that limited the prohibition to specific sections of the law and eliminates the provision that prohibited interference with individuals charged under those sections.
Additionally, the bill introduces a requirement for vehicle operators to disclose their name, address, and date of birth to police officers who reasonably suspect them of committing a violation of motor vehicle laws. Violations of these provisions are classified with specific penalties: obstructing law enforcement is now a second-degree misdemeanor, while failing to disclose personal information to an officer is classified as a fourth-degree misdemeanor. The existing section 4513.36 is repealed to accommodate these changes.
