The bill establishes the Ohio Task Force on Gun Violence, which will consist of various members including state officials, legislators, and community representatives focused on reducing gun violence. The Task Force will include the Governor, Attorney General, Executive Director of the Commission on Minority Health, Director of Children and Youth, Chief Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court, three members from the House of Representatives, three members from the Senate, and two community members dedicated to gun violence reduction. The Task Force is required to meet at least monthly and will select a chairperson or co-chairpersons within thirty days of its formation.
The Task Force's responsibilities include examining the prevalence of gun violence in Ohio, evaluating existing evidence-based programs, identifying best practices for violence reduction, exploring community revitalization efforts, proposing criminal justice solutions, and addressing social determinants of health for gun violence victims. Within one year of its establishment, the Task Force must prepare and submit a report detailing its findings and recommendations to the General Assembly, after which it will be dissolved. Members will serve without compensation unless it is part of their regular employment duties.
