The bill amends section 307.66 of the Revised Code to increase the financial support that counties can provide to military and veterans organizations for Memorial Day expenses. Specifically, it raises the maximum amount that can be appropriated from five hundred dollars to one thousand dollars. This funding is available to various recognized veterans' organizations upon application made no more than 120 days prior to Memorial Day. Organizations must submit a statement of expenses incurred and account for the complete expenditures of the funds within sixty days after Memorial Day.
Additionally, the bill allows for joint applications from multiple veterans' organizations to pool their entitlements to funds. It also outlines the responsibilities of township trustees and municipal corporations in appropriating funds for Memorial Day observances. If certain posts are unable to participate, the appropriations can be redirected to other civic or patriotic organizations willing to undertake the commemoration. The existing section 307.66 of the Revised Code is repealed to accommodate these changes.
