The 136th General Assembly of Ohio has passed a concurrent resolution urging the President of the United States to support the Ohio Department of Medicaid's request to implement work requirements for certain Medicaid recipients. This initiative follows the requirements set forth in H.B. 49 and H.B. 33, which mandate the Medicaid Director to seek approval from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for work requirements. The proposed work requirements would apply to new adult expansion group beneficiaries aged 19 to 49, who would need to participate in and report 80 hours per month of qualifying community engagement activities, such as employment or education, to maintain their Medicaid eligibility.
The resolution highlights the state's commitment to promoting economic stability and financial independence among its residents, as stated by Governor Mike DeWine. It emphasizes that implementing work requirements is expected to improve health outcomes by encouraging individuals to engage more actively with their health and healthcare. The resolution calls for the President's support in this endeavor and directs the Clerk of the Senate to send copies of the resolution to relevant parties, including the President, CMS Administrator, and Ohio's Congressional delegation.
