A RESOLUTION
In memory of Senator J. Kirk Schuring.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio offer our deepest sympathies to the family 2
and many friends of Senator J. Kirk Schuring on the sorrowful occasion 3
of his death; and 4
WHEREAS, Kirk Schuring will be remembered fondly by all those who 5
knew him, and his absence will leave an irreparable void in our 6
society. Widely respected for his tenure with the Ohio General 7
Assembly, he was an advocate for the growth and progress of the State 8
of Ohio and its people, and over the course of his thirty-one years as 9
a legislator, he served in both the Ohio House of Representatives, 10
where he had a brief stint as acting speaker, and the Ohio Senate, 11
where he most recently held the position of president pro tempore and 12

served as vice chair of the General Government and Rules and Reference 13
committees and a member of the Energy and Public Utilities and Finance 14
and Insurance committees. In addition, he was instrumental to the 15
creation of the Joint Economic Development Districts and Cooperative 16
Economic Development Agreements, and his tremendous experience as an 17
elected official and his devotion to duty gained him the appreciation 18
of his colleagues and constituents alike; and 19
WHEREAS, Kirk Schuring’s passion for community service was always 20
evident in his own approach to public life, and he dedicated his time 21
to such organizations as the Pro Football Hall of Fame Festival and 22
Vision 1 committees, the Ohio Retirement Study Council, the Stark 23
County Board of Elections, and the Canton Club, Jaycees, Urban League, 24
and Tomorrow Board of Trustees. The recipient of numerous accolades, 25
he was admired by his fellow citizens, friends, and family alike for 26
his positive philosophy of life, and he inspired countless Ohioans to 27
dedicate themselves to public service; and 28
WHEREAS, In his numerous roles as a husband, father, grandfather, 29
and community leader, Kirk Schuring led an exemplary life, and the 30
warmth and understanding that he so readily extended to others, 31
including his wife, Darlene, his children, Derrick and Kristin, and 32
his grandchildren, Preston, Parker, Quinn, Owen, Everett, and Lucy, 33
will stand as a monument to his personal character. Most assuredly, 34
the State of Ohio has benefited exponentially from his work, and he 35
will be remembered for his visionary example of citizenship; therefore 36
be it 37
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 38
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, pay 39
tribute to the memory of a truly honorable man, Senator J. Kirk 40
Schuring; and be it further 41
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 42
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the family of Senator 43
J. Kirk Schuring. 44
