A RESOLUTION
Permitting the Ohio Electoral College to conduct its 1
official vote for President and Vice-President of the 2
United States in the Senate Chamber on Tuesday, 3
December 17, 2024. 4
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF OHIO:
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 5
of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, permit the Ohio Electoral 6
College to use the Ohio Senate Chamber to conduct its official vote 7
for President and Vice-President of the United States on Tuesday, 8
December 17, 2024; and 9
WHEREAS, The President and Vice-President of the United States are 10
the only federal elective officials not elected by a direct vote of 11
the people but are elected by an institution known as the Electoral 12
College; and 13
WHEREAS, Article II Section 1 of the Constitution of the United 14
States provides that each state shall appoint a number of electors 15
equal to the whole number of Senators and Representatives to which 16
each state may be entitled in the Congress of the United States; and 17
WHEREAS, Article II Section 1 of the Constitution of the United 18
States provides that the electors shall meet in their respective 19
states and vote by ballot for the President and Vice-President; and 20
WHEREAS, Section 3505.39 of the Ohio Revised Code requires the 21
Ohio Secretary of State to select a place in the state capitol for the 22
electors to meet and cast their votes for the President and Vice- 23

President of the United States; and 24
WHEREAS, The Ohio Secretary of State has requested the use of the 25
Chamber of the Ohio Senate for the Ohio members of the Electoral 26
College to meet and cast their votes for the President and Vice- 27
President of the United States on Tuesday, December 17, 2024; 28
therefore be it 29
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 30
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, permit the Ohio 31
Electoral College to utilize the Chamber of the Ohio Senate on 32
Tuesday, December 17, 2024, to conduct its official vote for President 33
and Vice-President of the United States, and we commend its 34
participants for their civic responsibility; and be it further 35
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit duly authenticated 36
copies of this resolution to the Ohio Secretary of State and the Ohio 37
Electoral College. 38
