A RESOLUTION
Honoring Senator Vernon Sykes for outstanding service to
the Ohio Senate.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Senator Vernon 2
Sykes for his loyal service to the Ohio Senate; and 3
WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished tenure as a member of the 4
Ohio Senate, Vernon Sykes has demonstrated dedication to performing 5
his duties and fulfilling his responsibilities with efficiency and 6
competence. Representing the 28th District, he has shared with the 7
chamber a wealth of experience gained as a professor emeritus of 8
political science and director of the Columbus Program in State Issues 9
at Kent State University and a member of the Akron City Council and 10
the Ohio House of Representatives, and he has served as a member of 11
the Community Revitalization, Education, Finance, and Small Business 12
and Economic Opportunity committees. With determination and resolve, 13
he has brought his talents and experience to bear on the ever-changing 14
needs and issues of the Ohio General Assembly; and 15
WHEREAS, Vernon Sykes has given willingly of his time and energy 16
and has displayed a genuine commitment to improving the quality of 17
life in our society. His love for Ohio and his sincere desire to serve 18
its people have shown him to be a concerned and responsible public 19
servant, and we are proud to note that it is through the efforts of 20
individuals such as he that our state and nation continue to grow and 21

prosper; and 22
WHEREAS, Election to public office is one of the highest honors 23
that the people in a democracy can bestow upon a fellow citizen. 24
Throughout his service as a member of the Ohio Senate, Vernon Sykes 25
has maintained a high degree of achievement and has earned the respect 26
and admiration of colleagues on both sides of the political aisle. 27
Whether engaged in floor debate or in committee deliberations, he has 28
brought a full measure of enthusiasm, intelligence, and public spirit 29
to his duties and has served his constituents and the Great State of 30
Ohio; therefore be it 31
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 32
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, applaud Senator Vernon 33
Sykes on his service to the Ohio Senate and offer best wishes for 34
happiness and fulfillment in the years to come; and be it further 35
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 36
authenticated copy of this Resolution to Senator Vernon Sykes. 37
