A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Akron Garden Club
on its One Hundredth Anniversary.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to the Akron 2
Garden Club on its Centennial; and 3
WHEREAS, The Akron Garden Club has made numerous significant 4
contributions that have enhanced the quality of life in the area, and 5
it has earned the well-deserved respect and appreciation of many. 6
Established by F.A. Seiberling in 1924 in her home, Stan Hywet Hall, 7
the organization was a founding member of the Garden Club of Ohio and 8
an instrumental force in the founding of the Garden Forum of Greater 9
Akron. Since joining the Garden Club of America in 1945, it has become 10
a leader among its fellow clubs as well as a dynamic force in the 11
community; and 12
WHEREAS, It is through the work of initiatives such as the Akron 13
Garden Club that Ohio has gained a reputation for its willingness to 14
invest in the preservation and enhancement of the state’s natural 15
beauty. Indeed, the organization has sponsored a number of 16
horticulture, conservation, and civic improvement projects, including 17
the development of Cascade Locks Park, the rescuing of native 18
wildflowers, the eradication of invasive species, and the maintenance 19
of the Stan Hywet Hall English Gardens. These examples of unwavering 20
commitment to the highest standards of community service will ensure 21
that the Akron Garden Club will continue its tradition of excellence 22
long into the future; and 23
WHEREAS, Through the many beneficial programs and activities of 24
the Akron Garden Club, the members, supporters, and volunteers have 25
not only had the opportunity to express their personal talents and 26

skills but also to better the lives of those around them. All those 27
who have been involved with the club’s mission are to be commended for 28
their tremendous efforts to help others, and they are deserving of the 29
highest praise; therefore be it 30
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 31
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 32
congratulate the Akron Garden Club on its One Hundredth Anniversary 33
and salute all those celebrating this milestone; and be it further 34
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 35
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Akron Garden Club. 36
