A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Village of Portage
on its Bicentennial.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to recognize the Village of 2
Portage on the jubilant occasion of its Two Hundredth Anniversary; and 3
WHEREAS, This is, indeed, an auspicious milestone, and celebration 4
is certainly in order. Since its inception two hundred years ago, the 5
Village of Portage has experienced dramatic growth and change, and 6
yet, commendably, even as its residents have exuberantly embraced the 7
promise of a bright future, they have never relinquished their 8
appreciation for the worthiest virtues of the past. Without 9
sacrificing their sense of tradition in the name of progress, the 10
people of Portage have managed to nurture a fresh perspective and a 11
positive outlook that endear this distinctive place to all who know it 12
well; and 13
WHEREAS, Two centuries after it was founded, the Village of 14
Portage still radiates vitality, optimism, and a charm all its own. 15
Clearly, it is a place of many engaging qualities, and its schools, 16
businesses, and civic organizations both embody and thrive upon the 17
values of which our flag is an emblem. A vigorous commitment to public 18
service and an earnest devotion to lofty ideals have long been second 19
nature to many of Portage’s residents, and vigilance, industriousness, 20
and generosity have come to typify their collective character; and 21
WHEREAS, Every state depends upon such vibrant, durable 22
communities as Portage for its own survival and stability. Although it 23
has known adversity and tribulation, the village also has been favored 24
with its share of blessings. In the years to come, Portage is sure to 25
remain on its admirable course and to continue to transform challenges 26

into opportunities; therefore be it 27
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 28
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 29
extend our congratulations to the Village of Portage on the observance 30
of its Bicentennial and offer our best wishes for its perennial good 31
fortune; and be it further 32
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 33
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Village of 34
Portage. 35
