                       A RESOLUTION
                Honoring Friendly Inn Settlement, Inc.
                       on its Sesquicentennial.
     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th   1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate Friendly Inn        2
Settlement, Inc., on the auspicious occasion of its One Hundred          3
Fiftieth Anniversary; and                                                4
     WHEREAS, Recognition of this prestigious milestone is a fitting     5
tribute to Friendly Inn Settlement, for throughout the last century      6
and a half, it has achieved a remarkable record of service to the        7
Greater Cleveland area. Founded in 1874 by the Women’s Christian         8
Temperance Union to provide a liquor-free gathering place for the        9
residents of poor neighborhoods, this fine establishment is the          10
longest continuously serving settlement house in the United States,      11
and it has provided such public services as employment training,         12
housing assistance, GED classes, a food pantry, and various              13
individual, child, and family support programs. The organization’s       14
accomplishments are a justifiable source of pride and an outstanding     15
reflection on its hard-working staff and volunteers and on the entire    16
community; and                                                           17
     WHEREAS, Over the years, Friendly Inn Settlement has enhanced the   18
quality of life within the surrounding area, and through its generous    19
contributions, it has gained the esteem and gratitude of the numerous    20
citizens it has so capably served. We are certain that as this worthy    21
organization maintains its unfaltering dedication to service, it will    22
continue in the tradition of excellence that has long been its           23
hallmark; and                                                            24
     WHEREAS, We are proud to note that it is through the unceasing      25
efforts of agencies such as Friendly Inn Settlement that Ohio has        26

gained a reputation as a state that is responsive to the needs of its        27
citizens and has remained a pleasant place in which to live and work.        28
It is truly worthy of acknowledgement; therefore be it                       29
     RESOLVED, That we, the members of   the House of Representatives of     30
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in   adopting this Resolution,           31
commend Friendly Inn Settlement, Inc.,   on its One Hundred Fiftieth         32
Anniversary and extend best wishes for   ongoing success; and be it          33
further                                                                      34
     RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit       35
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to Friendly Inn                 36
