A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Treaty of Camp Charlotte
on its Two Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to 2
the Treaty of Camp Charlotte on the Two Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary 3
of its signing; and 4
WHEREAS, This milestone represents a memorable moment for our 5
state, for two hundred fifty years ago, the Treaty of Camp Charlotte 6
was signed on October 19, 1774, and opened the Ohio Valley for 7
European settlers after the Battle of Point Pleasant. Considered by 8
many to be a turning point toward revolution and a sign of things to 9
come, the battle and treaty signing are worthy occasions to recognize, 10
for their historical importance in many ways shaped our very state; 11
and 12
WHEREAS, Our country is the culmination of innumerable moments and 13
occasions that have coincided and led to our national identity, and 14
the legacy of the Treaty of Camp Charlotte has contributed to and 15
impacted our shared history. By ending Lord Dunmore’s War, the treaty 16
not only served as a portent of the atmosphere of the time but also 17
represented a moment when future patriots met and began to determine 18
that their loyalties lay with the land they called home rather than 19
the British kingdom that ruled them; and 20
WHEREAS, As we observe the occasion of the Two Hundred Fiftieth 21
Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Camp Charlotte, we not 22
only pay tribute to the first Americans who freed us from colonial 23
rule but also to the many individuals over the years who have 24
preserved and celebrated the history of our nation. That history 25
continues to influence our present, and we thank the many people who 26

have ensured that these important details of the past are communicated 27
to future generations; therefore be it 28
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 29
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, join 30
those observing the Two Hundred Fiftieth Anniversary of the signing of 31
the Treaty of Camp Charlotte and look to our future with great 32
optimism; and be it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 34
duly authenticated copies of this Resolution to the news media of 35
Ohio. 36
