A RESOLUTION
In memory of Dave Hobson.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio pay tribute to the memory of Dave Hobson, an esteemed member 2
of the United States House of Representatives and the Ohio Senate; and 3
WHEREAS, Dave Hobson will be remembered fondly by all those who 4
knew and loved him, including his wife, Carolyn, his three children, 5
Susan, Lynn, and Doug, and his numerous grandchildren and great- 6
grandchildren, and his absence will leave an irreparable void in our 7
society. Respected as a member of the Ohio Air National Guard, an 8
attorney, a businessman, a Rotarian, a university trustee, and a 9
member of countless boards, Dave Hobson was celebrated for his 10
integrity, and he brought a wealth of knowledge and a heart for the 11
public welfare into all of his endeavors to benefit the State of Ohio 12
and the United States of America; and 13
WHEREAS, In 1982, Dave Hobson was sworn into the Ohio Senate, 14
where he represented the people of the Miami Valley and during his 15
tenure, he served as the Majority Whip and President Pro Tempore. In 16
addition, he was the chair for the Health, Human Services, and Aging 17
Committee and shepherded several landmark initiatives, including 18
Ohio’s first comprehensive AIDS legislation and first grant programs 19
for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease, and he authored the 20
legislation to reform and reorganize the Department of Mental Health. 21
Indeed, he garnered the respect of his peers as well as his 22

constituents, and his stalwart legacy to our state will endure as a 23
testament to his passion for community service as well as his positive 24
philosophy to public life; and 25
WHEREAS, In 1990, Dave Hobson was elected to the United States 26
House of Representatives for Ohio’s 7th Congressional District, where 27
he made a lasting impression through his leadership, and he 28
exemplified the belief that the power of Congress members to enrich 29
and strengthen the communities they represented would be best achieved 30
by working together. As such, he helped balance the federal budget for 31
the first time in more than two decades as a member of the House 32
Budget Committee and advocated for important issues as the chair of 33
the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee and the Energy 34
and Water Development Appropriations Subcommittee. Without a doubt, he 35
will be remembered for his visionary example of citizenship and his 36
life’s work, which has exponentially benefited the State of Ohio; 37
therefore be it 38
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 39
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, offer our heartfelt 40
condolences to the family and friends of Dave Hobson, and express a 41
profound sense of loss on the sorrowful occasion of the death of one 42
of Ohio’s finest sons; and be it further 43
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 44
authenticated copy of this Resolution to the family of Dave Hobson. 45
