WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to acknowledge World Sight Day in Ohio, October 2

WHEREAS, Coordinated by the International Agency for Prevention of 4
Blindness and Prevent Blindness Ohio, World Sight Day is an annual day 5
of awareness that encourages attention on the importance of eye health 6
and the impact of vision impairment, including blindness. This year’s 7
focus will be on children as well as the priority for school nurses to 8
play a vital role in protecting and improving children’s vision 9
health, and the celebration of this day provides an opportunity to 10
advocate for better eye health initiatives and policies; and 11
WHEREAS, At least 2.2 billion people world-wide are affected by 12
vision-robbing conditions, with nearly half of those cases being 13

identification and treatment of vision disorders and impairment but 19
also brings to light the Love Your Eyes global campaign that aims to 20
introduce affordable, accessible eye care for everyone by 2030; and 21

number of Ohioans who suffer vision loss continues to increase, and 23
