A RESOLUTION
Honoring Annette Echikunwoke on securing an Olympic silver
medal in the women’s hammer throw.
WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the 135th General Assembly 1
of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to Annette 2
Echikunwoke on earning a silver medal in the women’s hammer throw at 3
the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris; and 4
WHEREAS, A remarkable individual, Annette Echikunwoke has combined 5
talent and competitive spirit with the highest ideals of good 6
sportsmanship to establish herself as a truly exceptional athlete. 7
With admirable dedication, she has worked diligently toward attaining 8
ultimate proficiency in her event, and as a result, she placed second 9
at this year’s Olympic Summer Games in Paris in the women’s hammer 10
throw with a top mark of 75.48 meters, making her the first-ever 11
U.S. Olympic medalist in her sport; and 12
WHEREAS, Annette Echikunwoke’s outstanding ability and spirited 13
drive, as well as her strength and tenacity, have distinguished her as 14
a superior competitor, and for her tremendous performance in this 15
year’s Olympic Summer Games, she has gained the admiration and respect 16
of all those who have witnessed her in action. Truly, she has proven 17
herself to be one of the finest hammer throwers in the world, and we 18
applaud her fantastic drive and commitment; and 19
WHEREAS, As a member of the United States Olympic women’s track 20
and field team, Annette Echikunwoke has conscientiously applied 21
herself to the quest for excellence as an athlete, training and 22
practicing diligently in order to ensure peak conditioning. Time and 23
again, she has risen to the occasion, maintaining her morale and 24
composure, and she has gained the respect of even her most determined 25
rivals. Clearly, her enthusiastic involvement in sports has enabled 26

her to learn much about dedication, self-discipline, and leadership, 27
and in the process, her exceptional prowess has made her family, 28
friends, and hometown of Pickerington very proud; therefore be it 29
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the Senate of the 135th General 30
Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, congratulate Annette 31
Echikunwoke as a 2024 Olympic silver medalist and salute her as one of 32
Ohio’s finest citizens; and be it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the Senate transmit a duly 34
authenticated copy of this Resolution to Annette Echikunwoke. 35
