A RESOLUTION
Honoring the Summit County Historical Society of Akron
on its One Hundredth Anniversary.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to congratulate the Summit County 2
Historical Society of Akron on its Centennial; and 3
WHEREAS, Recognition of this prestigious milestone is a fitting 4
tribute to the Summit County Historical Society of Akron for its 5
efforts to preserve and promote the area’s unique story. Incorporated 6
in 1924 thanks to the efforts of Minnie Weston Franz, Eugenia Thomas 7
Hay, Ada Rowe Allen, Mabelle Artman Caine, Lillie Hart Joy, Helen 8
Weston Williams, and Grace Griffith Wise, the organization has 9
attained a tremendous record of success ever since, and it has been 10
celebrated for its work to chronicle local history and citizenry; and 11
WHEREAS, Over the past century, the Summit County Historical 12
Society of Akron has fostered a greater awareness of the area’s 13
culture by maintaining a sizeable collection of artifacts and 14
sponsoring a variety of educational programming, and it has been 15
entrusted with the custodianship of several local landmarks, including 16
the Perkins Stone Mansion, the John Brown House, and the Old Stone 17
School. Clearly, the society’s accomplishments are a justifiable 18
source of pride and an excellent reflection not only on the 19
association itself but also on all those who have given tirelessly of 20
their time, energy, and support to the nonprofit; and 21
WHEREAS, The Summit County Historical Society of Akron has 22
certainly succeeded in its mission to uplift the rich heritage of 23
bygone days. In this modern era, in which the durability of goods and 24
values is often measured in months and days rather than in years and 25
decades, it is enlightening to discover that some representations of 26

the past still stand for future generations as a testament to previous 27
achievements; therefore be it 28
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 29
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 30
commend the Summit County Historical Society of Akron on its One 31
Hundredth Anniversary and salute it as an outstanding community 32
resource; and be it further 33
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 34
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to the Summit County 35
Historical Society of Akron. 36
