DETAILED ANALYSIS
The bill designates the following highway and authorizes the Director of Transportation
to erect suitable markers along the highway indicating its name:
Designated Name “SSG Jack W. Coy Memorial Highway”1
Highway The northbound and southbound lanes of I-280, between Navarre Avenue
and Front Street, in Lucas County
Other Information SSG Jack W. Coy served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII. On February
24, 1944, he was the tail gunner for his aircraft when it came under attack
over Germany and exploded in mid-air. Two crew members survived, but the
rest, including SSG Coy were lost in the explosion. Post-war efforts to find his
remains originally were unsuccessful. However, through new technology and
circumstantial evidence, his remains finally were identified on September 20,
2023.
