A RESOLUTION
Honoring First Baptist Church
of Chillicothe on its Bicentennial.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 135th 1
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to extend special recognition to 2
First Baptist Church of Chillicothe on its Two Hundredth Anniversary, 3
celebrated July 12, 2024; and 4
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1824 as First Regular African 5
Baptist Church of Christ, First Baptist Church of Chillicothe has 6
offered its members the pathway to a more meaningful life by 7
illuminating and demonstrating the precepts on which the Baptist 8
Church was founded. Moving into its current brick building and 9
adopting its present moniker in 1867, the church has since expanded 10
and added ancillary structures to its property, and its ministries 11
have been changed and expanded over the years. The spirit of love and 12
Christian fellowship that exists within the church also extends beyond 13
those sacred walls to touch the lives of everyone encountered by these 14
devout disciples; and 15
WHEREAS, Under the capable leadership of the Reverend Moses 16
Edwards, Jr., and his predecessors, First Baptist Church of 17
Chillicothe has experienced continual growth and has provided a source 18
of moral guidance and spiritual motivation for its congregation. Over 19
the years, the church has enhanced the quality of life within the 20
area, and through its generous efforts, it has earned the gratitude 21
and respect of the many citizens it has so capably served; and 22
WHEREAS, An occasion such as this is an important milestone that 23
represents dedication and commitment. For two centuries, the members 24
of First Baptist Church of Chillicothe have kept their faith alive in 25
the community, and on this special anniversary, they have accepted the 26

challenge of carrying their beliefs into the future; therefore be it 27
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of 28
the 135th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution, 29
commend First Baptist Church of Chillicothe on its Two Hundredth 30
Anniversary and pay tribute to all those joining in the celebration of 31
this joyous event; and be it further 32
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit 33
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to First Baptist Church 34
of Chillicothe. 35
